The underside of the base is finished with a radiating starburst cut.\nAbove sits an elaborate silver-plated mount, richly decorated with engraved and chased foliate and geometric ornament. The hinged lid is particularly impressive, surmounted by a wonderfully detailed rampant lion standing upon a ball and holding a shield.\n\nThe ornate cast handle continues the Gothic Revival \/ heraldic character of the piece, with scrolling decoration and an animal-head terminal, while the elegant projecting spout completes its dramatic silhouette.\n\nA small number “3” can be seen to the interior of the lid. No maker's name or other identifying marks have been found, so the maker remains unknown and no attribution is being made.\n\nA fabulous piece of Victorian tableware and a wonderful decorative object in its own right — ideal for a collector of antique glass, Victorian silver plate or unusual pieces of 19th-century dining history.\n\n*Condition*\nIn very good antique condition for its approximately 150 years of age.\n\nThe glass presents beautifully, with the expected minor signs of age and use. The silver-plated mounts show age-related surface wear, light scratching, tarnishing and areas of rubbing\/patina consistent with an antique piece of this age.\n\nThe hinged lid opens and closes and the decorative lion-and-shield finial remains in place. A small number “3” is visible inside the lid.\n\nNo maker's mark or silver hallmark has been found. The metalwork is therefore being described as silver plate rather than solid silver.\n\nPlease study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description and provide the best representation of condition.\n\n*A Note from FS Vintage Co.*\n\nAll of our items are genuine vintage or antique pieces and have been loved throughout their lifetime.
