At the opposite end, a pointed green glass tail completes the wonderfully fluid form.\n\nThe layered construction is characteristic of the sommerso style for which mid-century Murano glass became particularly celebrated.\n\nWhen illuminated under ultraviolet light, the glass produces an exceptionally vivid neon-green fluorescence, as shown in the photographs.\n\nThis strong green fluorescence is consistent with uranium-containing glass, which was used by a number of Murano glassmakers to create yellow-green layers within colourful sommerso pieces during the mid-20th century.\n\nThe UV photograph shows the actual piece offered for sale.\n\nComparable documented Murano swans from the 1950s–60s are known combining ruby-red glass with uranium yellow-green and clear glass in this manner.\n\nAs the piece is unlabelled and unsigned, no individual Murano factory or designer is being attributed. It is therefore offered as attributed to Murano\/Venetian manufacture based upon its construction, form and comparison with documented period examples.\n\n*Details*\nObject: Swan \/ bird figurine\nMaterial: Hand-worked art glass\nStyle\/technique: Sommerso-style layered glass\nColours: Ruby red, yellow-green and clear\nUV response: Strong vivid green fluorescence\nOrigin: Attributed to Murano\/Venice, Italy\nPeriod: Mid-20th century\nDate: Circa 1950s–1960s\nMaker: Unknown \/ unlabelled\nApproximate dimensions:\nHeight: 11 cm \/ 4¼ inches\nWidth: approximately 6–7 cm \/ 2½ inches\nPlease also see the measurement photographs.\n\n*Condition*\nIn good vintage condition overall, with age-related signs of previous display and handling.\n\nThere are surface scratches and scuffs to the glass, including a more concentrated area of scratching to one side of the body, which can be seen in the close-up photographs.\n\nThere is also a small surface abrasion\/scrape to the tip of the green tail. On physical inspection this does not appear or feel to be a conventional chip, and there is no obvious piece of glass missing; however, the area has been photographed closely so that buyers can assess it for themselves.\n\nSmall bubbles, variations and irregularities within the glass may be present and are consistent with its hand-worked manufacture.\n\nI have not identified any obvious major cracks or significant losses.\n\nPlease study all photographs carefully, particularly the close-up condition photographs, as they form an important part of the description and condition report.\nThe wear has been taken into consideration when pricing the piece.\n\n*A Note from FS Vintage Co.*\n\nAll of our items are genuine vintage or antique pieces and have been loved throughout their lifetime. As such, signs of age and gentle wear should be expected and are considered part of their unique character and charm.\n\nWe do our very best to photograph and describe each item accurately, so please take a moment to look carefully at all photographs, as they form an important part of the description and condition report.\n\nIf you have any questions or would like any additional photographs before purchasing, please don’t hesitate to get in touch—we’re always happy to help.\n\nWe also believe in giving packaging a second life wherever possible, so your order may arrive using clean, recycled packaging materials to help reduce waste.\n\nYour order will be sent via Royal Mail Tracked 48, providing tracking from dispatch through to delivery.\n\nThank you so much for visiting FS Vintage Co. and supporting our small business—it truly means the world to us.
