A fascinating and socially important mid-century autobiography telling the story of Father Joseph Williamson, known for his work in the East End of London, particularly the parishes of Poplar and Stepney. This compelling memoir reflects on poverty, post-war London life and Father Joe’s dedication to helping vulnerable communities in one of the city’s most deprived areas. The striking turquoise dust jacket and blue cloth boards give this vintage first edition wonderful shelf appeal, while the atmospheric cover artwork captures the mood of 1960s East London beautifully. An excellent piece for collectors of social history, religious history, London ephemera, autobiographies or vintage books with strong visual character. Condition Report: Good vintage condition overall for its age. First printed in 1963. Original dust jacket present with noticeable age-related wear including rubbing, edge wear, small tears, creasing and some loss to corners and spine ends. Blue cloth boards beneath remain clean and bright with gilt lettering to spine. Pages are clean overall with light age toning. There is a handwritten inscription/date to the front endpaper. Binding appears sound and intact. Please study photographs carefully as they form part of the description. Thank you so much for looking!
