A beautiful vintage Franklin Mint Kakiemon Cat, produced in 1988 as part of the wonderfully varied Curio Cabinet Cats Collection.
This elegant little porcelain cat stands alert upon a rectangular white plinth, decorated with a fine red line around the edge. Its glossy white body is scattered with delicate sprays of red, pink and yellow flowers with green foliage, while a rich gilt collar provides the finishing touch.
The design takes its inspiration from Japanese Kakiemon-style porcelain, celebrated for its restrained use of colourful enamel decoration against a predominantly white porcelain ground. The name refers to the artistic style represented by the figurine and should not be taken to mean that the piece was manufactured by a Japanese Kakiemon kiln.
The wonderfully stylised face gives this little cat enormous character, with almond-shaped eyes, a tiny black nose and an elegantly curled tail.
The underside carries the circular ©1988 THE FRANKLIN MINT mark, confirming its date and origin.

In lovely vintage condition.
The porcelain appears sound with no obvious chips, cracks or repairs visible in the photographs. The colourful floral decoration remains bright and attractive, with the gilt collar also presenting beautifully.
