A wonderfully characterful vintage Franklin Mint “Vienna Bronze” Cat, from the collectible Curio Cabinet Cats Collection, dating to 1988.
This delightful miniature bronze sculpture depicts a playful cat reclining on its back, clutching a wonderfully vivid orange ball of wool between its paws.
The cat has a richly textured dark antiqued bronze finish which beautifully picks out the sculpted fur, paws and wonderfully expressive face. Tiny painted details provide a lovely flash of colour, including the cat's green eyes, brilliant orange wool and charming red ribbon.
The Vienna Bronze design was inspired by the tradition of charming miniature bronze animal figures associated with Vienna during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Despite its diminutive size, the modelling is remarkably detailed — right down to the individual strands of fur and texture of the ball of wool.
The underside is clearly stamped ©88 FM, dating this particular example to 1988.
