A beautiful vintage Franklin Mint “Ch’ing Dynasty” Cat, from the collectible Curio Cabinet Cats Collection.
This charming miniature cat has been created in translucent jade-green glass, designed to evoke the appearance of traditional Chinese carved jade.
The wonderfully characterful seated cat has a rounded sculptural form, with its head turned gently to one side and its tail and body decorated with flowing raised scroll motifs.
The glass ranges beautifully in colour according to the light, appearing a rich leafy green in shadow before becoming considerably lighter and more translucent where the light passes through it.
The underside retains its original Made in China paper label.
The Ch’ing Dynasty design formed part of the earlier Franklin Mint Curio Cabinet Cats collection and is commonly catalogued to the mid-1980s.
Maker: The Franklin Mint
Collection: Curio Cabinet Cats
Design: Ch’ing Dynasty
Date: circa 1986
Material: Jade-green glass
Height: approximately 7.5 cm / 3 inches
Origin: China
Label: Original Made in China label present
Please note that “Ch’ing Dynasty” is the Franklin Mint design name. This is a later decorative interpretation inspired by historic Chinese jade carving and is not an antique Chinese object or a piece of natural jade.
*Condition*
In good vintage condition overall.
The figurine presents beautifully, with the ears, facial features, legs and decorative moulding all appearing intact.
There are several very tiny flea bites/nibbles to the lower edge of the base, visible on close inspection and shown clearly in the close-up photograph. These are confined to the base edge and are not particularly noticeable when the cat is displayed.
There are also minor signs of age and previous handling/display commensurate with a vintage glass piece.
The original Made in China paper label remains attached to the underside.
No cracks or repairs have been identified.
Please study all photographs carefully, particularly the close-up of the base edge, as they form an important part of the condition report.
