A beautiful vintage Franklin Mint “Delft” Cat, from the collectible Curio Cabinet Cats Collection, dating to 1986.
This wonderfully elegant little cat is modelled seated with its head gently lowered, and is decorated in the distinctive blue-and-white palette traditionally associated with Dutch Delftware.
Against the glossy white porcelain are stylised cobalt and soft blue floral motifs, with delicate blue shading around the ears, face, paws and curled tail. The result is a particularly pretty interpretation of traditional Delft decoration and one of the most recognisable designs from the Curio Cabinet Cats collection.
The design is documented as “Delft” within the Franklin Mint collection and formed part of the original group of Curio Cabinet Cats. Franklin Mint's own contemporary advertising described the design as its Dutch blue-and-white Delft cat.
The underside bears the Franklin Mint maker's mark.
Please note that this is a Franklin Mint figurine inspired by traditional Dutch Delftware, rather than an antique piece manufactured by one of the historic Delft potteries.
