A beautiful vintage Franklin Mint “Imari” Cat, from the collectible Curio Cabinet Cats Collection, dating to 1988.
This wonderfully decorative little porcelain cat is modelled in a relaxed reclining pose, its body covered with an elaborate design inspired by traditional Japanese Imari porcelain.
Against the crisp white porcelain are striking areas of deep cobalt blue and iron red, lavishly accented with gold-coloured detailing. Even the cat's face, ears, paws and sweeping tail have been incorporated into the intricate pattern, making this one of the most eye-catching designs in the Curio Cabinet Cats collection.
The underside is clearly marked:
©1988 THE FRANKLIN MINT
The design is documented as “Imari” within the Franklin Mint Curio Cabinet Cats collection.
The name refers to the historic Imari style of Japanese porcelain decoration which inspired the design; this is a vintage Franklin Mint interpretation rather than antique Japanese Imari porcelain.

*Condition*
In very good vintage condition overall.
The porcelain appears sound, with no obvious chips, cracks or repairs identified. The colourful Imari-inspired decoration remains wonderfully bright and attractive.
There is some minor age-related wear/rubbing to areas of the gold-coloured decoration, particularly around exposed edges, consistent with age and previous display. This can be seen in the photographs and does not detract significantly from the overall appearance.
Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description and condition report and show the exact figurine you will receive.
