A particularly beautiful and less commonly encountered piece from The Franklin Mint's Curio Cabinet Cats Collection — the wonderfully whimsical “Lustre Glaze” Cat, dating to approximately 1990.
This delightful miniature figurine depicts an elegant reclining long-haired cat with brilliant blue eyes, a tiny pink nose and a wonderful golden crown perched upon her head.
Her white body has been finished in a beautiful pearlescent lustre glaze, which catches the light in shades of soft pink, blue, green and lavender. A delicate raised floral motif decorates her side, adding another lovely detail to this remarkably elaborate little figurine.
The underside bears the © TFM mark for The Franklin Mint.
*The Curio Cabinet Cats Collection*
Franklin Mint introduced its Curio Cabinet Cats in the 1980s, creating a fascinating collection of miniature cats inspired by different artistic traditions, materials and decorative techniques from around the world.
The collection ultimately comprised 39 official designs across three series, ranging from porcelain and glass to metal, stone-effect and other decorative finishes.
This example represents the “Lustre Glaze” design and belongs to the later group of Curio Cabinet Cats, generally dated to approximately 1990. These later designs appear considerably less frequently on the secondary market than many examples from the earlier series.
A particularly charming find for a Franklin Mint collector, cat lover or collector of unusual vintage miniature figurines.
