A charming vintage Franklin Mint “Netsuke” Cat, from the collectible Curio Cabinet Cats Collection, dating to 1986.
This lovely miniature depicts a peacefully sleeping cat curled tightly into a ball, its head resting against its paws and its long tail wrapping beautifully around the body.
Finished in a warm ivory/cream colour, the softly modelled face, closed eyes and compact curled pose give this little cat a wonderfully serene expression.
The design is known as “Netsuke” within Franklin Mint's Curio Cabinet Cats Collection and takes its inspiration from the tradition of small Japanese netsuke carvings.
Please note that this is a Franklin Mint collectible inspired by netsuke and is not an antique Japanese netsuke or carved ivory.
The underside retains its original circular Franklin Mint label, dating the piece to 1986.
